The Shades of Clouds

A Unique Vacation Villa Inspired by Flying Clouds

This vacation villa in Zhejiang Province breaks away from traditional Chinese design elements and embraces the concept of flying clouds, creating a serene and picturesque retreat.

Designed by Wei Ting Lin, The Shades of Clouds stands out among the many vacation villas in Zhejiang Province. While most villas in the region draw inspiration from Chinese elements, this project takes a different approach by capturing the motion and beauty of flying clouds.

The villa's design aims to recreate the ethereal scene of clouds in motion. The use of a gentle white color palette and original soil walls, combined with fabrics and soft furniture from Bali, creates a space that is both photogenic and perfect for a relaxing vacation. The building renovation follows the natural terrains, resulting in rock constructed walls and a wood platform that seamlessly blend with the surrounding mountain landscapes, adding a touch of romance to the architecture.

The interior decoration of The Shades of Clouds is inspired by the laid-back lifestyle of Bali. The predominant white color symbolizes the clouds, while vintage decorations and preserved yellow soil walls and doors evoke a sense of simplicity and tranquility. The use of cottons and linens for the soft furnishings enhances the level of comfort, inviting guests to unwind and connect with nature. The large windows offer breathtaking views of the picturesque surroundings, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the beauty of the landscape.

With a total area of 1500 square meters, The Shades of Clouds is a testament to the designer's commitment to preserving the original architectural features. The yellow soil walls, beams painted in white, and imported furniture from Bali create a gentle and elegant atmosphere. The renovation plan not only enhances the living environment but also ensures that the villa remains in harmony with its natural surroundings.

Located in Songyang Mountain, Zhejiang, China, The Shades of Clouds project started in March 2017 and was completed in April 2019. It posed several challenges, including the need to preserve the original building features, constant wall damages, and a lack of manpower. However, the dedication of the design team and the support of the local community resulted in the successful renovation of this unique vacation villa.

The Shades of Clouds has become a popular destination for photographers, thanks to its mountainous environment and the constant presence of passing clouds. The careful integration of the villa with the natural landscape, from the rock constructed walls to the wood platform, creates a harmonious and captivating retreat. Visitors can escape the hustle and bustle of the city, relax their minds, and capture unforgettable moments.

This exceptional design has been recognized with the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2020. The award acknowledges the innovative and resourceful approach taken in creating a space that enhances the quality of life and contributes to making the world a better place.
